WYNYARD FERRY TERMINAL
Architecture Undergraduate Year 3 // Semester 2 Wynyard Quarter Ferry Terminal Sustainability, Renewables, Passive Strategies
This design project explores a ferry terminal located on the Wynyard Quarter edge amongst six tow ering silos and a vast seaward site. The ideas investigated and pursued embody environmentally progressive architecture, that also establishes a meaningful connec tion between the built, environment and human comfort. The site on Wynyard Quarter presents a unique challenge in the retention of six silos that is situated in the center of the boundary but also provided an opportunity to reap solar and wind gains due to the sheer verticality of the silos. This design exploration seeks to exploit existing possibilities on-site by harnessing the elements that interact with the surrounding envi ronment on a daily. Wind and solar provide passive qualities that are a primary component and catalyst of the project, this investigation looks to bridge function and public comfort through a comprehensive attachment between design and the environment.
